Contest rules

2024

This contest is sponsored and organized by The Personal General Insurance Inc. in Quebec (referred to hereinafter as “The Personal”). The contest runs from April 1, 2024, to November 30, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

Exclusivity

The contest is open exclusively to persons eligible for home and auto insurance under the Université de Sherbrooke (UdeS) insurance program at The Personal.

Prizes

There is a total of $3,000 (CDN) in prizes available to be won, consisting of the following:

  • Two (2) prizes valued at $1,500 (CDN) each. Prizes will be awarded in the form of a cheque.

Eligibility

  1. To be eligible for the contest, contestants must:
    • Be a resident of Quebec;
    • Be at least 18 years old on the date of each draw;
    • Be eligible for home and auto insurance under the UdeS insurance program on the date of each draw;
    • Have either: (i) obtained a home or auto insurance quote from The Personal between April 1, 2024, and the end of the month preceding the date of each draw, OR (ii) have a home or auto insurance policy with The Personal in force at the end of the month preceding the date of each draw. For more information, see “Details of the Draws” section below.
  2. No entry form or purchase necessary. One entry per insurance product (home and/or auto) per person. Maximum two (2) entries per person.
  3. Executive Management and employees of UdeS, as well as the persons with whom they are domiciled, may not enter the contest and are not eligible to win.
  4. Employees, representatives, agents and mandataries of The Personal or of any other entity that is part of Desjardins General Insurance Group Inc. or one of its subsidiaries, and the persons with whom they are domiciled, may not enter the contest and are not eligible to win.

Details of the Draws

  1. The winners of the two (2) prizes will be selected by means of two (2) electronic draws held at head office of The Personal, located at 6300 Guillaume-Couture Boulevard, Lévis, QC  G6V 6P9, on the following dates:
    • On July 11, 2024: one (1) draw among all persons who have obtained a home or auto insurance quote from The Personal between April 1, 2024, and June 30, 2024, OR who have a home or auto insurance policy in force with The Personal on June 30, 2024.
      Prize: $1,500
    • On December 12, 2024: one (1) draw among all persons who have obtained a home or auto insurance quote from The Personal between July 1, 2024, and November 30, 2024, OR who have a home or auto insurance policy in force with The Personal on November 30, 2024.
      Prize: $1,500
  2. The odds of winning depend on the number of insurance quote requests obtained and the number of UdeS policy owners in the databases of The Personal that have an auto or home insurance policy in force for the period applicable to each draw, in accordance with the “Eligibility” section above.
  3. An entrant cannot win more than one (1) prize.
  4. The contest entrant is the person whose name appears on the insurance policy or insurance quote request. In the event that two individuals are joint insurance policyholders or jointly request an insurance quote, an eligible person who is a UdeS community member will be the one who must answer the time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question and will receive the prize in his/her name. If both individuals are UdeS community members, either may answer the time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question, but the prize will be awarded in the names of both individuals.
  5. If the insurance policy or insurance quote request is issued in the name of a corporate body, the time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question will be submitted to the person whose name appears on the insurance policy or insurance quote request as the representative of that corporate body, or to any other designated representative thereof, and the prize will be awarded in the name of the corporate body indicated on the insurance policy or insurance quote request.
  6. To obtain their prize, each winner must meet the eligibility criteria mentioned herein and:
    1. Be reached by telephone within ten (10) business days of the draw; and
    2. Correctly answer a time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question asked over the telephone; and
    3. Accept one of the prizes listed above as awarded; and
    4. Consent to the use of his/her name, place of residence, photograph, voice recording and likeness without any compensation whatsoever;
    5. The winners will receive a letter confirming that he or she is the winner as well as a Declaration and Release of Liability Form by registered mail. The winner must sign and return the completed Declaration and Release of Liability Form within the period specified in the letter.
       
    Failing this, The Personal will select another winner. This subsequent draw will proceed in the same manner as described herein, with the exception of the date, which cannot be the same.
  7. The prizes ($1,500 cheques) will be couriered to the winners within six (6) weeks of each respective draw date.

General Provisions

  1. The contest is subject to all applicable laws.
  2. All insurance quote requests are the property of The Personal.
  3. The Personal cannot be held liable for lost, misdirected, or late entries, or for any failure, for any reason whatsoever, that may affect the availability or operation of the website or any telecommunications systems and networks for the duration of this contest. Moreover, The Personal cannot be held liable for any damage to entrants’ computers or to components of computer systems used to enter this contest.
  4. The Personal reserves the right to disqualify any entrant or cancel any entry that does not comply with these rules.
  5. Prizes will be awarded to the winners only. The awarding or the right to receive the prize cannot be transferred to the successors or heirs of the winners.
  6. The winners recognize that, upon receipt of their prize, the delivery of products or services related to the aforementioned becomes the entire and exclusive responsibility of the winner and releases The Personal of all liability for any damages that could result from the acceptance or use of the prize.
  7. The Personal disclaims any and all responsibility in the event of loss or theft of any of the prizes.
  8. By entering this contest, participants release The Personal from all liability for any damage that could result from said entry.
  9. In the event that the organizers are unable to award the prize as described in the contest rules, they reserve the right to award a similar prize with an equivalent value or, at their sole discretion, to award the equivalent value of the prize described in these contest rules in cash.
  10. The Personal reserves the right to modify the contest conditions or terminate the contest at any time, without notice.
  11. All decisions made by The Personal are final and binding.
  12. The Personal assumes no responsibility whatsoever in the event it becomes unable to act as a result of an event or a situation outside of its control or a strike, lockout or any labour dispute in progress within institutions, organizations or businesses whose services are used to conduct this contest.
  13. UdeS is not associated with this contest and does not sponsor it in any way.
  14. A French version of these rules is available online. In the event of a discrepancy between the French and English versions of these contest rules, the French version will prevail.
