Don’t skid around—get your car ready for winter!
We’ll soon be facing everything a Canadian winter can throw at us, and motorists need to get ready to drive safely.
Car expert Richard Spénard suggests the following useful tips:
“A major mistake motorists make is not adjusting their driving speeds to road conditions,” he said during an interview with NewsCanada. “Many drivers are overconfident and don’t realize they need to adapt their driving habits to the environment, especially when there’s ice or melting snow.”
When road conditions are bad, Spénard recommends testing your braking distance ahead of time by gently tapping the brakes to check road traction. “With this little test, motorists will be able to gauge their control and won’t be caught off guard on a slippery road.”
Spénard also says that everyone should be properly equipped for winter driving with snow or ice tires, a broom, a shovel, and a first aid kit.
Also, review your auto insurance coverage to make sure you’re well protected because most road accidents occur in the winter.
