What is Replacement Cost coverage?
(Avenant 43 – A et E)

Recommended if you have a new vehicle

After an accident, covers your new vehicle and its equipment and accessories, and protects your new vehicle against depreciation for up to 5 years.

  • In the event of a total loss, your vehicle will be replaced with a new one having similar features, equipment and accessories.
  • In the event of a partial loss, any damaged parts that can't be repaired will be replaced with new ones.

With this coverage, you can go to the dealer of your choice for repairs and replacements. You have up to 90 days after you buy or lease a vehicle to add this coverage to your policy.

What is Value Plus OptionTM coverage?
(Endorsement 43 – B and F)

Recommended if you have a used vehicle

With this coverage, your used vehicle is protected against depreciation for up to 5 years.

In case of partial loss

If depreciation applies when a damaged part is repaired or replaced, this coverage will pay the amount of the depreciation, up to $1,000.

For example, your car door that already has some rust damage is dented after a collision. With this coverage, the dents will be removed and the door will be repainted. It will look better than before, and you won't be charged for the depreciation due to the rust.

In case of total loss

Depending on the option included in your policy, you get compensation equivalent to:

  • the price you paid for your car, increased by an annual percentage; or
  • the value of your car at the time of the loss, increased by an annual percentage.

Either way, your settlement amount will be more than your car's actual cash value at the time of the loss, giving you more options to buy a new car.

What is Civil liability coverage - Damage caused to vehicles of which named insured is not owner (including vehicles provided by an employer)?
(Endorsement 27)

Recommended if you rent or borrow vehicles every now and then

This optional coverage protects you in case you damage a private passenger vehicle, trailer or camping trailer you rent or borrow, anywhere in Canada and the United States. Depending on the type of vehicle you rent for personal use, you won't need the insurance offered by the rental company.

This coverage is included in the Worry-Free OptionTM.

What is Travel Costs (broad form) coverage?
(Endorsement 20a)

Recommended if you want to avoid paying for travel costs following a loss

This coverage reimburses you for the cost of renting a replacement vehicle, taking a taxi or public transit when your vehicle is not driveable after a covered loss (e.g., theft or collision).

If the loss occurs during a trip, this endorsement also covers certain additional expenses for meals and accommodation.

This coverage is included in the Worry-Free OptionTM.

  • Rented or borrowed vehicle:
Up to $100,000 for damage to a rented or borrowed private passenger vehicle, trailer or camping trailer. This is the only coverage you need if you rent a vehicle in Canada or the United States.
  • Your vehicle is stolen or is off the road:
Following an insured loss, get up to $1,500 for travel costs (e.g., car rental or taxi fares) and up to $750 for certain additional expenses for meals and accommodation if the loss occurs while you’re travelling.
  • Death as a result of a car accident:
$15,000 of coverage for you and your spouse.

What is $0 Deductible Option coverage?

Recommended if you want to avoid paying a deductible

Adding this option to your auto insurance policy can help you eliminate unexpected expenses. You’ll pay no deductible in the event of theft, vandalism or an at-fault accident.

What is Accident-Free Protection coverage?

Recommended if you want to avoid higher premiums in case of an at-fault accident

With this coverage, your premium won’t increase after your first at-fault accident. As long as the Accident-Free Protection remains on your car insurance policy, this accident will be treated as though it never happened.
