Frequently asked questions about the Ajusto Program
Get an insurance quote and save!
Ajusto is an insurance program that's completely voluntary and free. It uses telematics to help you save on your auto insurance. Based on your driving habits, you could receive additional savings of up to 25% on your auto insurance premium at renewal! Your Ajusto data will ONLY be used to calculate additional savings for you.
If you’re insured with The Personal, and you own a newer model of iPhone or Android device (less than 3 years old), you can sign up for the Ajusto program. Ajusto is compatible with Apple iOS 8 or higher and Google Android 4.4 or higher.
To sign up for the Ajusto program, you need a newer model iPhone or Android device (less than 3 years old). Ajusto is compatible with Apple iOS 8 or higher and Google Android 4.4 or higher.
Please note Ajusto is not available on tablet.
No, you don’t need a data plan to sign up for the Ajusto program.
The Ajusto program is completely free.
No. The Ajusto program won't increase your insurance premium. But it can help you save more on your auto insurance renewal. Your premium won't go up because of the data collected on driving habits for your vehicle. At renewal, your premium will be calculated, based on the usual insurance rules. Remember that there are a number of other factors that can impact your overall premium, including at-fault accidents or traffic convictions that may occur during the policy term.
You can save up to an additional 25% on your auto insurance premium at renewal, as long as the principal driver has downloaded and activated the Ajusto section of the app at least 160 days ago and driven at least 1,000 km.
Ajusto collects and analyzes driving data listed below. We use this information to calculate a score that will be turned into savings on your auto insurance at renewal.
3 criteria determine driving smoothness: fast acceleration, hard braking and hard cornering.
Respecting the speed limit decreases the risk of an accident and helps improve road safety. Parameters of the app have been set to allow a small margin over the legal speed limit (between 10 and 15 km/h depending on the limit), without compromising the safety values we want to promote with our Ajusto program. To maximize your score and, by extension your discount, drive at a safe speed!
Time of day travelled
The risk of an accident is higher at certain times of the day. For instance, driving at night is considered more risky than driving during the day because of driver fatigue and reduced visibility. A level of risk is associated with different times of day.
The less you drive, the more you save. Shorter trips pay off because they increase your score!
Your score is updated after each trip. It’s based on a general picture of your driving, so a single event won’t have a direct impact on your score. The Personal analyzes the overall trends in your driving habits to calculate your score.
Medals are a great way to challenge yourself to be a better driver! Each medal has 4 levels of difficulty, so you can improve your driving at your own pace. When you earn a medal, simply tap it to claim it.
The following table shows the savings associated with different scores:
|0 to 60||0%|
|61 to 63||1%|
|64 to 66||2%|
|67 to 69||3%|
|86 and 87||20%|
|88 and 89||21%|
|90 and 91||22%|
|92 and 93||23%|
|94 to 96||24%|
|97 and up||25%|
Once you have recorded 5 trips as a driver, open the Ajusto section of the app to see your score and learn more about your driving habits. We use this score to calculate your savings on your auto insurance premium at renewal.
Each month, you’ll receive an email with the individual scores of all the drivers on the insurance policy who have also downloaded and are participating in the Ajusto program, the overall score (which includes the score of each driver), and your estimated annual savings.
You can cancel the Ajusto program at any time, without penalty, by calling us at 1-888-476-8737. Remember that deleting the app from your phone will not cancel your enrollment.
If you cancel the Ajusto program, the discount will also be cancelled. You must remain enrolled in the program to receive the Ajusto discount.
Even if you’re already insured at The Personal, you can still sign up for the Ajusto program and potentially save even more on your auto insurance.
To find out how the Ajusto program can save you money, sign up directly in The Personal app or call one of our P&C insurance agents. They will be happy to assist you and explain how you could benefit from the Ajusto program. Our agents are available Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1-888-476-8737.
The app records:
- Vehicle location (GPS)
- Accelerometer data (which measures accelerations) and gyroscope data (which measures rotational movements)
- Application power on/off
All your driving data of the last 30 days and your score will be displayed in the Ajusto section of The Personal app. You can use the app to view your trip summaries and get your driving score.
As an Ajusto user, you should make sure your phone’s battery is charged when you’re driving so the application can collect data. If the battery is too low, no data will be collected.
Most of the time, Ajusto will automatically detect if you’re the driver or a passenger of a car by analyzing your trip. However, if you weren’t driving and the application did not detect it, simply indicate it in the app for the trip in question. Remember that the map doesn’t show every detail of a trip. It only identifies the most significant events.
No. Only the principal driver of the vehicle indicated in the insurance policy of the vehicle needs to sign up for Ajusto to enjoy savings. If other drivers have an eligible smartphone, they can sign up for the Ajusto program by downloading The Personal app too. This means the driving habits of all drivers of the vehicle will be taken into account to calculate the score and savings. The principal driver is responsible for 70% of the total score. The remaining 30% is affected by the score of all other drivers participating in the Ajusto program.
Yes, if other drivers signed up for the Ajusto program as well.
The principal driver is responsible for 70% of the total score, while the other 30% is calculated based on the scores of all other drivers participating in the Ajusto program.
No. Other drivers won’t affect your savings, unless they’re insured as a driver of your vehicle and they participate in the Ajusto program.
If you weren’t driving and the application didn’t detect it, simply indicate it in the app for the trip in question.
The Ajusto program discount applies to all vehicle coverages and Ontario policy change forms (OPCF), except:
- OPCF 3 – Drive Government Automobiles
- OPCF 20 – Coverage for Transportation Replacement
- OPCF 27 – Liability for Damage to Non-Owned Automobile(s)
- OPCF 44R – Family Protection Coverage
- Accident-Free Protection
After downloading The Personal app and activating the Ajusto section, your phone’s operating system will send a location permission request . To use the app and enjoy the benefits, you should accept the request.
This permission request will allow us to collect your driving data so that we can calculate your score, which will be turned into savings on your auto insurance renewal.
You can get a lot of information about your driving habits:
The dashboard shows your score and trip summaries. If you weren’t driving and the app thinks you were, you can indicate that here. Each trip is rated out of 100 and your score is calculated individually for each trip. Note that trips under 1 km will not appear in the app and will not be taken into account in the calculation of your score.
Tap any trip on your dashboard to see more details. You can view a map identifying the main events of the trip and use the legend to help you analyze it. Remember that the map doesn’t show every detail of a trip—only the most significant events.
Track how many medals your great driving has earned you!
All trips are saved and then analyzed. Once the analysis is completed, after a short delay, the data will be uploaded. Depending on your Wi-Fi selection in your account settings, the data will be uploaded once your trip ends or once you enter a Wi-Fi zone.
The application uses a predictive model to determine if you’re the driver or a passenger for a trip. It’s also how we determine what mode of transportation you’re using. But if it turns out you weren’t the driver or you used a different mode of transportation than the one detected, you can easily change your trip information in the app.
Yes. The Ajusto section of The Personal app has an effect on the battery. The effect varies from one telephone model to another, but battery consumption is highest when the app uses the GPS. If your phone’s charge is too low, Ajusto will not start up or will stop collecting data if you’re driving, as we don’t want to drain your phone’s battery recording trips. We are actively working to reduce the effect of the Ajusto section of the app on your battery consumption.
Remember to make sure your phone is switched on and the battery is charged so that trip data can be collected.
Deleting the app from your phone won’t cancel your enrollment, because the collected data will be held in your file for a year.
If you want to stop using Ajusto and cancel your enrollment, first call 1-888-476-8737 and we’ll remove the program from your auto insurance policy. You can then delete the app from your phone.
If you deleted The Personal app from your phone for another reason, simply download the app again and you can pick up where you left off.
To use Ajusto on Apple Watch, you need to:
- Match your watch and iPhone using the Apple Watch app. Apple Watch is compatible with iPhones 5 or later, operating on iOS 8.2 or on later versions.
- Be sure to have The Personal app downloaded and installed on your phone and the Ajusto section activated. Then, activate the app on your phone’s Apple Watch app.
It’s probably because the app isn’t compatible with your smartphone model or your phone’s operating system. The app is compatible with Apple iOS 8 or higher and Google Android 4.4 or higher.
The app isn’t compatible with the following operating systems:
- Windows Phone
- Firefox OS
- Sailfish OS
- Ubuntu Touch
This is probably because your phone does not have the functionality to use Ajusto: a GPS, an accelerometer and a gyroscope.
If you still can’t see the app, please call us at 1-888-476-8737 to remove the Ajusto program from your auto insurance policy.
Please note Ajusto is not available on tablet.
